Launch of Nationwide Drone-Based Shading and Heat-Reduction Coating DX Service
for Agricultural Greenhouses, Livestock Facilities, and Factories
Enhancing Summer Heat Countermeasures with Safe and Efficient Operations to Support Production Sites Across Japan
OPTiM Corporation (hereinafter OPTiM), the market leader in AI, IoT, and Big Data platforms, will begin full-scale nationwide deployment of the Drone Shading and Heat-Reduction Coating DX Service for production sites such as agricultural greenhouses, livestock facilities, factories, and work sites.
The Drone Shading and Heat-Reduction Coating DX Service provides comprehensive digital management of drone operations, digital mapping, pilot management, and application-to-billing processes within a single digital platform. By using drones for coating application, the service enables highly safe, efficient, and uniform application without the need for scaffolding. It supports summer heat countermeasures at production sites across Japan, contributing to stable agricultural product quality and yield improvement.
■Background
In recent years, high summer temperatures nationwide have caused physiological disorders in horticultural crops and livestock products, resulting in significant production loss. Applying shading and heat-reduction coatings has become one of the key countermeasures for securing stable yields. Additionally, starting June 1, 2025, amendments to the Industrial Safety and Health Regulations have made workplace heatstroke prevention mandatory, drawing further attention to countermeasures for workers inside facilities.
Shading and heat-reduction coatings work by being applied to facility rooftops, reflecting sunlight and suppressing temperature rise inside the facility. However, applying these coatings often presents challenges due to facility structures, such as difficulty applying from the ground because of high roofs, safety concerns about climbing onto roofs, and the need to quickly cover large roof areas.
To address these issues, OPTiM began trial provision of drone-based shading and heat-reduction coating services in June 2025. Through these trials, OPTiM confirmed strong on-site effectiveness and demand. Based on these results, OPTiM has now launched nationwide provision of the Drone Shading and Heat-Reduction Coating DX Service, utilizing the pilot resources of the company’s nationwide Pinpoint Time Spraying Service.
■Overview of the Drone Shading and Heat-Reduction Coating DX Service
The Drone Shading and Heat-Reduction Coating DX Service uses drones to apply shading, heat‑reduction, and removal agents to the roofs of agricultural greenhouses, livestock facilities, factories, and work sites. It also provides a digital platform for drone operation management, digital mapping, pilot management, and end-to-end workflow from application to billing. By applying shading and heat-reduction coatings, the service helps prevent temperature increases inside facilities.
◆Service Features
- ① Safe application without the need for scaffolding or climbing onto greenhouse roofs
- ② Efficient and uniform application using atomizer-type drones with automated flight
- ③ Numerous skilled drone pilots nationwide with extensive experience in pesticide spraying
◆Operational Efficiency Benchmark: Power Sprayers vs. Drone‑Based Application
Drone‑based application is approximately 2.1 times more efficient than conventional power sprayer application※1※2. With the Drone Shading and Heat-Reduction Coating DX Service, up to 1–2 ha can be coated per day.
■Case Studies
◆Case 1: Agricultural greenhouse (tomato) in Kanagawa Prefecture
◆Case 2: Agricultural greenhouse (tomato) in Miyagi Prefecture
◆Case 3: Livestock facility (poultry house) in Gunma Prefecture
